Yet another place. A failure to escape of monumental proportions, and if Spock permitted himself to be subject to those irritating and troublesome human emotions, then he would have likely felt embarrassment. Instead, he directed any energy into an entirely new series of experiments and escaped attempts ( Read more... )

Strolling in a fairly lazy manner, as he usually did on days when Rimmer took care of morning bar inventory, Vila was in a bright mood. Not only did he have many friends here but he hadn't had to bother with introductions. It was a bit disconcerting and no doubt if he told Avon just how many people seemed to know him he would over react but Vila wasn't about to ruin things by riling Avon's paranoia. Maybe in a few months. But not now. He glanced around and saw the strange man and blinked a moment.

"Oi, nice ears."

He stopped at the familiar voice, wondering in surprise over who it could be. It seemed unlikely, but then there was Vila Restal. Being... well... Vila Restal, an entirely unique human in the whole of his population and the sort of man that usually inspired emotion in others. He served as an excellent test of emotional fortitude.

"I do recall you commenting with a fondness for them, though it could have been a human disposition for favorable interest to the unusual and novel."

Vila scratched the back of his head, confused for a moment. "I said that before? I must be slipping. I can't say I recall you at all, and I think I would remember." After all, tall, lanky and pointy earred men weren't a dime a dozen.

"Perhaps you were intoxicated," Spock suggested, that everready eyebrow climbing high as he regarded his friend, or what was actually a near chronological duplicate of his friend. Though lacking in their shared history.

...Which he had no idea of quite yet, and proceeded to treat him as he always had.

"You must tell me of your interaction with the Doctor. I was suspecting that our previous encounter would be our last and I was left curious concerning your future. Would you care to join me?" he asked motioning for him to walk with him if he chose.

Avon wasn't roaming so much as lurking, but he was on the promenade, people-watching. It wasn't difficult to pick out the humanoid alien bustling around. Curious, he approached. "You look like a man with a plan," he drawled.

There was a definite look of recognition. A narrowing of the eyes in just the slightest bit of confusion. Though initially, he didn't directly name the man. Something suspicious was going on here, perhaps another useful hint at unravelling this mystery.

"Unfortunately in that I am lacking, though in the process of formulation. Commander Spock of the starship Enterprise," he introduced himself, tone simple and robust as it always tended to be.

Avon noted the expression on Spock's face, the way his eyes narrowed, and wondered what it meant.

"Kerr Avon," he replied, "Alpha-class computer technician, retired." There was a touch of wry humour in the words. "Of...nowhere in particular, at the moment."

Unusual. He'd just attended this man's wedding not too long ago, and now he was here. Back to the way that he had been before. Possibly. He seemed good enough humored. There was a chance he could be from a different timeline altogether.

He was still mourning the loss of his own timeline and a son who wouldn't exist to him, in the only way a Vulcan could mourn.

"Pleased to make your acquaintance, Kerr Avon. I take it since you are actually talking to me you are also contained here against your will."
