You're obviously all on tenterhooks about my job situation, and I have good news! I got rehired by the company I was with before, for a different project. Similar job, similar hours, same pay (which is nothing to sneeze at). I took the train back to Portland so I could get trained tomorrow (ha ha) and start on Wednesday. Hopefully this one will ( Read more... )

I did my first MA in TESOL. I think the idea of getting certified in both bilingual and TESOL is ideal ( ... )

Thank you for the excellent advice! I didn't even know you had studied ESOL.

Being too awkward to connect with people?... I really think that if you feel a call, God knows what God's doing.

There was a girl I knew in seminary who, I have to admit, at first blush, I thought didn't belong. A lot of other people didn't think she should be there, either. She was mildly mentally handicapped, and seminary is hard, and a lot of the study of religion is intellectual. But this young woman, who was in a number of my classes, (re)taught me the pure joy of simple faith. She had a faith that was pure and honest and trusting. And although she didn't ace her courses, she had insights that other people missed. When I hear people say that they could be called, but that they've got flaws that might disqualify them, I think of Becky.

God uses us in all our weaknesses. If you answer the call to ministry, it won't be for any attributes you have except obedience. Just my thoughts on that one... :)

Well, I feel like I'm feeling a call to something, but I still don't know what it is!

If you would be willing and able to call or email about this at any point, I'm sure I would get a lot out of the conversation. You're actually probably the person who comes closest to understanding all the facets of my personality that are... not necessarily leading me in different directions, but definitely confusing me (faith, sexual orientation, education, relationships, etc.). Though no pressure; I know you have a lot going on in your own life right now too.

In any case, thank you for all the guidance and sage advice you've given me already! Please keep me in your prayers.

Absolutely! I'd love to talk to you anytime. I hope you know that.

Actually, I was thinking a lot about you last night after I read this post and thought that if you and B do make it out here, we should spend a day at Wesley. Even if you don't want to go, I would like to connect you with some people there who are dealing with some of the very same situations you are - most notably, faith, sexual orientation and relationships and how it all fits together. There are a number of people there who have found some very interesting and creative solutions for their lives - and others who are still searching.

Anyway, I'm at my mom's right now, and will return on Saturday. Sundays are really busy for me, but I'll be around all day Monday except for time around lunch. Husband is out of town, and we could have a long, relaxed talk as late as you'd like it to go. Call. Or have me call if you don't have unlimited calling (I do, it won't cost me. Just let me know a good time and your number.)
