DW review: 4x13 'Journey's End'

I’m not quite sure what I think of the episode a whole; there were some very good moments but at other times it was slightly cringworthy. And the ending was so sad for Donna and almost fluffy for Rose. I doubt that we’re going to see either of those again.

Okay to start the review with a detail: the German Daleks, they were a very nice touch, and ( Read more... )

Regarding Torchwood, I find it ironic that Jack's closing line in "Exit Wounds" was: "The End is where we begin." And from "Journey's End," Dr. Who's finale, Jack finds Tosh's and Owen's replacements.

So you mean he is correct "the end" is where the rebuilding of their team begins?

You could use logic, but I mean there was so much desperation and so much fear already, because of what had happened to us.

'And I’d love to see his reaction to Jack’s immortality. It might go something like this:

Mickey: WTF were you always like that?!

Jack: Perfect, you mean?

Mickey:…
Jack: No, its your ex’s fault!

Mickey: What Marilyn?

Jack: No Rose.'
I would love to see that too, not to mention all the Smith and (Ianto) Jones jokes.

'I for one am undecided it could work, it could not.'
I think it could work with Mickey, but I don't think Martha is the right character for Torchwood, they already have a female lead in Gwen (plus I think three ex-companions may be one too many. Torchwood could easily become all about the companions).

I hadn't thought of the jokes yet:>

It's like you're reading my mind, I thought the exact same thing. An additional problem for me would be that Ianto and Gwen would be the odd ones out, instead of the core of the new TW3 team.

But if Mickey alone was to join that's an altogether different matter. He has just the right amount of snark to fit into TW3 and is low profile enough to be a part of a team.

'An additional problem for me would be that Ianto and Gwen would be the odd ones out, instead of the core of the new TW3 team.' Yeah, that's why I'm afraid Ianto might be pushed into the background (again) if both Martha and Mickey come to Torchwood.

I hope the snark really flies between Ianto and Mickey; I do love my characters snarky.

Maybe then we'll get to hear more than oneliners from Ianto.
I still thought we saw too little of him in season 2, although there was improvement to S1.
So maybe next season he'll get an actual episode that revolves around him?
