Open Thread: Coffeeshops

Right now, I don't have a favourite local coffeeshop. Sad, but true. Not that I lack places to go for a cuppa, in this neighbourhood: if I walk up two blocks, there's Futures and Dooney's; if I walk down a block, there are Italian cafés galore. I'm lucky enough to have two places. One is in my old neighborhood; it's a frou-frou bakery in a university neighborhood that has two walls of windows and cozy little tables where you can sit in a sunbeam. When I first moved there and wasn't making enough money to pay the bills, I could buy a sweet roll and a large cup of coffee and make them last two hours while I read the Sunday NYT. I also got to watch the yuppies and professors come in and buy their fresh bread, and I would dream about getting a better job. Now I get tempted by their $6 fruit tarts, but that somehow makes the place less charming ( ... )
