I keep a copy of Fowler's Modern English Usage (2nd ed.) by my bedside (I don't read Sanskrit). And I've been known to make a very attractive young lady wait so that I could satisfy myself about a point of Latin syntax. (I made it up to her, of course).
Glad you like it. Took me a while to figure out how to present the vignette, given that I'm artistically incompetent. But, you know, in the dark, it doesn't matter how badly I draw.

I did once break off a long, passionnate kiss to look up an etymology in the Concise Oxford. I cannot now remember what the question was, alas.
