Rocco Rossi: Right-Wing Grinch

Jan 22, 2010 10:15

Mayoral candidate Rocco Rossi is the sort of candidate my dad would have voted for: his proposed policies are ideologically right-of-centre, pro-business, pro-suburb.

The Empire Club apparently loves him.
Cut because Toronto is not the centre of the universe. It's just where I happen to live. )

which side are you on?, the bicycle hoyden speaks, teh stoopid, asshaberdashery, urban living, does she ever shut up?, wtf, quem custodiet?, bicycle hoyden, holding forth

Or is it just that Mr. Rossi and the entitled so-and-sos at the Empire Club can't deal with the notion that there might be space in the city for people who don't subscribe to their way of life, whose status and self-worth are not dependent on Empire-Club sanctioned benchmarks, who aren't like them?

Precisely that I fear.

I read about that, too, and it really horrified me. :/

*rages*

Tell me that this person is unelectable. Tell me that even GTAers aren't so stupid.

(God, they had better not halt Transit City. It's my best bet for one day getting to work in under an hour.)

I think that he's got about 8% of the vote and Smitherman has about 50%+. Let's hope that Smitherman doesn't blow it, or someone else. Adam Giambroni doesn't have much of a chance either. I can't recall the only real competition that Smitherman has, but it's not Rossi.

I'm not really worried that Rossi will get elected. There's always one selfish throwback candidate, after all. Intellectually, I know that people like Rossi exist and live here. Emotionally, though, I'm always kind of shocked and horrified that they feel entitled to their opinions.
