Remember when I was trying not to be emotionally invested in this show anymore? For the record, I blame this on every tidbit we've gotten over the last month about what we can expect from S7. This little vidbunny got its claws into me and would not let go until it was finished...

This was pretty much a direct result of...
A) hearing S7 tidbits from the cast and writers at Comic Con (and since) about the world closing in on Sam and Dean a la Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
B) hearing Jensen Ackles talk about S6 HERE especially this statement about Dean‘s life with Ben and Lisa:
I think it was a life he always dreamed about. And I think the reality of the situation set in and the fact that that is never going to be his life. And I think he has come to accept that. And he’s going to embrace it. Because he’s like ‘look, I tried it. It’d be nice if that were the case but it’s not the case. This is who I am. This is what I do. And this is my life.' And so I think his resolution with that is going to help propel him forward.
C) accidentally stumbling on this song
...all in the same week. I’d quite randomly marked this as a potential Lisa vid song when I first got the album last fall, and hadn't thought much more about it. However, listening to it again after ‘Let It Bleed’, an episode in which Dean Winchester's FACE absolutely WRECKED me, I knew there was just no way I could pass this up. As all my half-finished non-SPN vids waiting in their timelines went, 'WAIT, THAT‘S NOT FAIR, WHAT ABOUT ME?!' I'm getting back to you guys, I swear!
Of course, it only took me a day to realize how impossible it would be to do a true Lisa vid. The show simply does not provide the material because frankly, we never get to see Lisa. Not Lisa the person. The concept and idea that she represented to Dean, sure. But we never do get to know her. In fact, she doesn’t ever actually get to do anything except kiss Dean, hang out in doorframes, and talk barely above a whisper. Not very conducive to vidding a character vid. So...instead this quickly turned into a ‘Let It Bleed’ Dean POV extrapolation vid. Oops?
However, even vidding Dean’s conception of Lisa turned out to be a difficult task. I’d never quite noticed the extent that the show tied Dean’s attachment to Lisa onto Ben, but looking at it shot by shot was striking. It's overwhelming how little emotional resonance is established between him and Lisa compared to him and Ben. It's as if the show has no idea why he's with Lisa other than how she has a kid that he'd kinda like to imagine is his. (Yes, even the longest relationship he’s ever had with a woman, and it’s still more about his relationship with another male character than about her. Disappointingly typical of this show, isn't it?) As a result, Lisa got relegated to a much more minor role in this vid than I had originally intended.
The funnier story is how Sam totally swooped and stole Dean's attention here. Funny, because it was completely inevitable. The moment I realized the "distance will always be home" lyric, I knew the vid would naturally have to bleed into Sam. Let‘s not even talk about how in five years I’ve proved incapable of vidding anything with these two that doesn‘t have ‘home‘ as the main subject line. I'm such a one trick pony.
So instead, sure I worked through some Dean POV issues, vidding is always fandom therapy for me. But it basically became a true-blue Sam'n'Dean vid disguised in Dean, Lisa, Ben trappings. (SORRY, LISA!) Even moreso, it was made with a ‘YAY that depressing S6 is over and S7 is almost here which let’s all hope is a lot more like the first five years!’ sentiment. RIDICULOUS, I KNOW. But it's true. S7 is making me damn excited for some stupid reason. I'm a fangirl, I celebrate with angst and boy smiles.
And I mayyyy have played around with some red/blue color meta. Because I'm also a total geek fangirl like that. ;)
Special shoutout of thanks to those who have provided the flawless S6 footage. You know who you are. I feel so spoiled suddenly, I've never had the chance to work with such high-quality source!
