Poor little Basilisk....

I forgot to mention that the theme of the challenge was "waiting." For some odd reason, maybe it's just the weird way that my brain works, the first thing I thought about in connection with "waiting" was the Basilisk :p
I left a hint in the end that the Basilisk would eventually become a "bloodthirsty executioner" -- it's my way to reconcile the CoS canon when it kept repeating "let me kill you, let me riiip you...," blah, blah. Not so innocent toward the end. (It felt just like writing historical fictions: can't change history no matter how much I want to.)
Poor Basilisk indeed... :(

So I left untold the years between Tom Riddle's opening the CoS for the first time and when ghost!TR showed up again during Harry's second year. Those years would have been the years that the Basilisk descends into bloodlust, hence the "let me kill you" etc. that Harry hears during his second year.
But I took the easy way out, leaving that inference to readers ^_^;;

I'll post a party announcement entry in the next day or two, so check back for details. tanechigai is already interested in going to some release party. I'm in the process of convincing Jenn to go too. You know the saying: the more the merrier ;)

I forgot, I'm helping out with a community service at NYC rescue mission starting at 7, but it can't possibly take until that late. Let me know when and where I should meet up with you guys and I'll duck out at the appropriate time provided we have enough people working in the group.

Is that the rescue mission on Lafayette and White? It's quite close to the R and the 6, I believe.
Will you be done by 9:30? This way you can come, settle down, and have a little something to eat before we take off. I want to get to BoW a bit early since it's not the biggest bookstore in the world. But 6K is literally like <10 min. walk from the store, so no hurry :)
