Thank you for calling Starbucks, there are no trains, how may I help you?

First, a very happy belated birthday to luciechan!!!

Now, even though New York City isn't the center of the universe, I'm sure lots of you have heard about the Flooding [that] Cripples Subway System yesterday. I've never seen so many people above-ground, queued up in a massive line, waiting for the City buses. Fortunately, I wasn't affected at all. I ( Read more... )

That sounds like fun... as in from looking on the incident, not while (if) it happens to me. Lol~~

It reminded me of the time, on the day of er (is there such a word as test exam? which counts in the school report) there was heavy rain downpours. A lot of place were all flooded. Didn't not matter if it was a major exam (well sort of), only a handful of students appeared. The rest of them, were all stucked in the traffic or behind flood-jam. A number of roads were all like rivers, I kid you not. So the school exam board had to shuffled the papers to another day, or was it cancelled? I can't remember... the rest of us who were at the school, wished that we didn't, 'coz there were no teachers! Again, my memory failed me, what did I do that day? Maybe I will go and ask my friend if she remembers... Oops, hang on, she's also one of them missing attendees... Geez, who should I ask?

Haha, I'd love to have a totally legitimate excuse to miss an exam!

The subway system isn't always ideal even on sunny days. I remember one time one of my professors called about 20 minutes into when class was supposed to start, and informed us all that he was stuck due to the lack of the L train (the only East-West cross-town train in our particular section of NYC). We ended up waiting another 20 minutes before he showed up!

Unfortunately, it was a 6-hour class :p

I remember that class with fondness though. The professor always made it fun, and since he was training to run in the New York Marathon that year, he always let us out one to two hours early so he could go off and run.

I've always wondered how those busses work.

They "work" but they take forever and a day. It's only worth it if you need to go crosstown somewhere halfway between 42 and 14 streets where there's no subway. They accept metrocards.

Hehe, you beat me to giving the exact same answer ;)

I've only taken the buses 2 or 3 times ever, and each time was because I had extra time during the day. This certainly didn't help stragglers trying to get to work on time. The office was so empty at Job #2 yesterday.

Craziness!

To me, this just goes to really show that if NYC ever floods, the city will be shut down! That's kinda scary considering how much money goes through there a day.

Yikes, hopefully that'll never happen. Yeah, there's not much alternative to the subway considering how the ground transportation is already so crowded as is.

Why do people have such trouble with the buses? They're EASY!!!

I try to avoid the buses whenever possible. Especially going downtown, when sometimes I'd walk faster than the buses, lol.

Of course, whenever I'm feeling lazy I would hop on an NYU. It takes forever, but at least it's free...

My manager is really cool. I guess anyone in that situation would be at a loss for a solution -- people couldn't come to work because there was literally no way to get there (my boss at Job #2 decided to drive, but so did everybody, so she didn't get into the office until 3 in the afternoon!).

The up side is that the customers didn't have transportation either. So even though we were understaffed, we managed :)

And you're welcome! I wish I had had the time to make you a banner. But it was already past your birthday by the time I sat down to make this LJ post T_T
