A couple months ago, I signed up for the first ever Sam/Gabriel Mini-Bang. Here's the art for my first story, In Full Color by hey_mister_dj; featuring Artist!Gabe and Lawyer!Sam. Three pieces, one definitely NOT worksafe.
I say you know the success of fic!art-tie-in when just looking at the art when it makes you eager to go read the fic. These are great pieces and I love the focus on color :D
ahhhh seconding the above comment; i looked at these first and had to read the fic because that second picture is so great. so many little details to love! and hhhhh i love the deer in the first (lol predictable) and the way you contrasted the colors of the people with the paintings - it really is effective. and the last one, the wing effect looks so natural, like it really could have been done by accident, and then the handprint on sam's hip just has me cracking me up because lol fanon. /rambling because lovely art
I love to add little easter-egg type things in my larger pictures. Especially if they're complicated or layered pieces. Of course I put a deer in there as a nod to Tumblr friends (even though Anael's the cervidae-esque one when I imagine them), the nine-branched tree (though now that I look at it, I should have painted leaves on the upper one), and an homage to Zach's little world. I don't often use color, but oddly enough, I love how the Random Orange and Purple Dude came out. I'll have to try this style again.
Ah, the last one was fun to do! I wanted to make it look realistic, since there's no supernatural element (that we know of) in this verse...and Sam isn't rally concentrating anyway! I like to think Gabriel really just slapped that there, "MINE!".
This is all wonderful! Wow! My favorite is definitely "The obligatory "paint me like one of your french girls" scene". Sam is so gorgeous there with the shirt and the jeans and the peek of his tattoo. *-*
That was exactly what I was thinking when I read the scene...and the author told me she was thinking it too.
But come on, you've never posed for your artistic friends/lovers? It's practically a right of passage. Doesn't have to be sexual at all. I mean that pose is completely artistic in its execution, with the dynamic expression and the, uhnnn, triangular shapes...

Color seemed important to the story, as a contrast to the way Sam's life had gone so far. I wanted it to be sort of thematic.
(I think way too much about these things.)
