I have an Iliad ebook. It's expensive, but I really love it. It uses one particular kind of ebook format (mobipocket), but it can also display anything in a PDF format, which is fairly universal, and also HTML, TXT, JPG, BMP. and they plan to add more formats in the future. And you can write notes on it.
The display is "electronic paper" type - i.e. it looks like paper print, which also means it is not self-lit - you need light to read it like normal paper.
Yes, Adobe is pdf format. With PDF's you can't actually change the font size (because of the type of file it is) but you can zoom in on it and pan across it.
