WOW! That's like watching the Nature Channel. I hope that snake wasn't poisonous, and I hope that either way, you stayed well away from it.

What did Apollo think of this? Who was he rooting for?

I assumed it wasn't poisonous since it didn't have fangs, which is how they inject venom, isn't it? At any rate, I kept my distance. These pictures were taken with a zoom. Utah is the place I genuinely worry about snakes since we have a healthy population of rattlers here. I nearly vomited the day I went trail running right past one--he was well camouflaged until he rattled at me--and then I thanked the clouds Apollo wasn't with me.

Apollo was oblivious. He was either napping in the ferns or sniffing hopefully around the sardine cans from lunch.

Oh, great action shots! That must have been really interesting.

At least it wasn't a banana slug. ;)

I'm jealous of the wild salmon sashimi you mentioned, too, heh. Hooray for the Pacific Northwest.

Yes, it was totally riveting to watch. And how can you not root for the peaceful, beer-loving herbivore? ; )

We didn't spent a lot of time in Vancouver this trip, but the asian influence is everywhere, so I imagine you'd have a field day. I noticed it particularly in the prevalence of high rise living. I also happened to notice the UBC has a linguistics dept...

I thought you might like these, fellow nature goddess. It was super cool to watch.

B.C. has a few (wonderful) things in common with Norway, it seems to me. Hopefully some day I'll get to do a direct comparison.
