I was hoping for a natural delivery, but Baby Y's umbilical cord was wrapped twice around his neck so his heart beat was dropping as labor contractions intensified. They pulled him out by C-section. His Apgar scores were high, but doc suggested I teach him a better place to tie in to his climbing

Yayayay! Congratulations. Too bad you had to have a C-section, but rather that than brain damage, obviously! See if you can find an experienced craniosacral therapist in your area to give him a gentle round as soon as possible. The journey through the birth canal helps make all joints flexible (he hasn't had much room to move lately, after all). All the best to all of you. Happy hugs and abundant blessings!

Wonderful! I am so happy for all 3 of you! It sounds like things got pretty scary for a while, but the important thing is that he's here and he's healthy.

I've never seen the name Yarrow. Is it a name in your family, or something that you and the Boy Wonder created just for him? Or neither? Inquiring minds want to know. Whenever you feel up to it, that is.

My doc never let it get to the point of scary. And I fully trusted someone who let me climb and ski my whole pregnancy. (I'd even say he took delight in watching that unfold.)

Yarrow is just an Old English plant name. Think of it like Heath. I first heard it worn by a Yosemite Search and Rescue climber and loved it. I only know of three others besides Baby Y roaming about with that name though; it's not conventional.

Apollo came home yesterday from his stay with friends. They reported him to be a real 'ladies man', following Stephanie around the house while she showered and cooked and even reporting to her on one occasion when their baby was crying in his crib in the other room. He met Yarrow with a few good-natured sniffs and a lick. We are trying to keep treating him like the precious member of the household that he is, even though there's a time-intensive baby around.

I'm the only lady Apollo never fell in love with... But it sounds like he's already trained for baby-sitting. Why buy a baby monitor when you have Apollo around? :-)

That's because we made the mistake of thinking an evening walk around PC would be enough exercise for Polly dog that day. He was amped and not to be wooed. Sorry he left you with a case of the unrequiteds.

Congratulations for a safe delivery! I hope you recover quickly. Lol it's always good to have a doctor who understands you, and it's never too early to teach safe climbing habits ;p

Thanks, CHK! I had the perfect doc for me--and he has a strong reputation as an OB around this area.

BTW, you did this *three* times?? I think you should take up extreme sports. They're easier. : D

And mine were all quick labours and no intervention necessary. You get the harder recovery job. Hmmmm extreme sports - did no one tell you that that's another term for parenting :-)
