I'm wondering how to say "bisexual" in Chinese. Last time I was in China I had a terrible time conveying the idea, and when they finally got it they told me there was no word for it. That seems hard to believe. Anyone know more?

translation, stupid questions, expressions

My dictionary tells me it's 受到两性吸引的人. But it sounds too.. clinical. Heh.

I'd think the fact that bisexuality isn't very prevalent or talked about in a rather conservative society, might have more to with the fact that you had problems getting the concept across.

受到两性吸引的人
That's a definition, not a translation. Sounds like your dictionary was designed for Chinese people trying to learn English vocabulary, and not the other way around.

I usually say 双性恋. It's probably not the correct word for it, but it gets the point across.

I had a terrible time conveying the idea

this may be one of those cases where ostensive definition best communicates one's meaning.
