Awesome and congrats! Did you originally envision this as a trilogy, or do you want it to go further?

Hey Shara. I have no idea why I'm just now seeing this. Updating LJ has become excessively onerous and on top of that I think comment notifs haven't been going through. :( I'm about to set up a syndicator from erinhoffman.com and only use this journal for private posts. :( Lame but what can you do?

To very belatedly answer your question, in case I didn't somewhere else: I have always intended for there to be more Andovar books, but also for this particular part to be a trilogy. I'm fond of the trilogy method of building out worlds, at least at the moment. :) Keeps the story contained and (hopefully) fulfills promises to the reader, while still allowing for a lot of breadth in the world.

Funny, though -- this used to be pretty common, but it seems like most fantasy is in long or even interminable series these days?

I think it depends on the kind of fantasy. Urban fantasy? Yeah, don't expect trilogies. But I still see trilogies in "regular" fantasy (Allison Sinclair comes to mind). But you're right too: there's long-running stuff too: just look at Brandon Sanderon's THE WAY OF KINGS, which is the first brick book in what's supposed to be a 10-12 book series. Then again, maybe Sanderson gets a pass, since he has written a few stand-alone titles. :)
