Ah, you might have thought I was dead, but it is untrue.

Following the announcement of Gamecock there's been a lot of discussion about whether this might be the answer and whether they'll shake up the game industry. It's quite possible. Specifically on the Gameboy Advance (which is on its way out of the minds of the game-buying public), I noticed a unanimity of games that were just ports of TV shows or movies.

I remember a quote from IGN (corporate as they are) regarding Okami, "Ten years ago, we would have expected such a game, but now in 2006? What a breakthrough."

The market is changing; I hear Okami sold poorly in Japan. (Might've been like receiving a video game about Paul Bunyan here)

While there's nothing in the producer career track at Vivendi/Sierra regarding project management (oh god, is there nothing there for them), most of them seem to have grown up out of game players (and even testers), at the least, and understand the newer hardware. And I won't say the company is doing really well -- we're riding WoW for the most part -- I have seen some pretty cool games coming through here that aren't sequels or licenses (though we certainly have both of those as well). I suspect that even though Dynamix was closed out, some of the producers from there are still around to green-light interesting projects (though I suspect those only get to be done by developers who have shown their ability first).
