'Cause there's gonna be a Firefly MMO.It's interesting that Multiverse is doing it. I rather wondered how much capital they had raised and what they were going to do with it. This should be fun to watch. Initially I was skeptical that the fanbase was large enough to sustain the numbers necessary to keep a real MMO running, but I guess it will ( Read more... )

Interesting. Unfortunately, considering the track record of most licensed games (not just MMOs) -- and the fact that by the time this comes out Serenity and Firefly will be that much older -- I don't have high hopes.

Yeah. My initial reaction was also skepticism. But it will depend on what Multiverse can pull off. They've got a lot stacked against them... 1. New company. 2. No previous actual MMOs shipped (connected to the first but not necessarily the same). 3. Franchise that couldn't generate enough interest to sustain itself in other media. 4. Frachise based around strong storytelling and characters, neither of which an MMO has really successfully pulled off.

Then there are the general challenges involved in establishing a new online community. I think it could be done, and I think the Firefly world is suited to such a thing... they could do a story-based bigger projection of Urban Dead with reavers-versus-humans, for one thing... but the odds aren't in their favor. I wonder who they plan to get working for it. If it isn't someone who's done this before, they'll be finished before they've begun.

Yea - the last time i looked at multiverse, it looked... abandoned, for lack of a better word. Everything on the site was a year old, referencing things we'd see in deadlines 6 months past...

Its interesting they landed this. I'm immensely curious how that will work out.
