We made the first leg of our trip

We left MN around 8am and drove non-stop (except for lunch at the Norsk Nook in Osseo, WI) and made Chicago slightly after 7pm. The last 50 miles was almost literally stop and go traffic. Thankfully P drove that part and I mostly listened to Alice Sebold "The Almost Moon" I think I'm half way through. It probably wasn't the best choice for today's ( Read more... )

gotta love the norsk nook. we have been stopping there for years, and have been known to drive there for lunch when the mood strikes. have fun in chicago, and if the mood strikes, the fondue restaurant is fantastic, the museum of holography is absolutely incredible, if a little hard to find, and you can't go wrong looking at all of the christmas windows on the shopping areas.

have fun. i am a bit jealous- we used to go to chicago at christmas time with my mom's parents and eat in the walnut room around the tree and look at all the window displays. and get garrett's popcorn. at least now i can order the popcorn- nothing up here comes close to their's, and it is a taste of home, sort of, at the holidays.

It was the first time for me at the Norsk Noon, recommendation from P's mom. It was a great stop. Although driving out there just for lunch, I don't know that I've ever done something like that....but sounds so fun! Thanks for the Holography suggestion, may have to check it out.

Thanks for sharing your memories about Chicago, I've been here once that I hardly remember.

Popcorn, may have to check that out too!

be prepared for lines. order caramel cheese corn mixed- it is heavenly. and yeah- bigger bag the better, it goes fat. we order a huge tin every year for the holidays, and it goes so fast. i am always so sad to see the last few bits in it.

YUM! Yep, there was a line so I bought the jumbo mix and we left Chicago early because of the weather. I had to make people stop eating so we'd have some to share with the other folks in Indianapolis. The drive there took twice as long!

I used to love the Walnut Room! It is closed. It was in Marshall Fields. Now out of business.

Enjoy! I hope you do not freeze here. It is freakin cold today!

Alice Seabold writes about disturbing topics. I read Lovely Bones and Lucky. (Lucky is exceptionally disturbing topic: rape)

I am glad that you made it here safe and sound! I hope you enjoy the city!

I did enjoy the city...perhaps another visit when the weather isn't so cold. I would have loved the chance to walk along Michigan more.

Her most recent book deals with matricide (killing her mother). It's very dark.
