It really depends on what context we're talking about here. There is to say, the war was largely justified to the public because the Japanese were different, and that's a valid thing to bring up. But like if you want to put in the context of why the war was being waged, or to make the Japanese seem innocent in this, it's rather disgusting and most completely wrong.
I'm not sure what Tom Hanks means exactly, but then again I'm not too worried about him.

Well Americans back then vilified both sides. "The Krauts and the Japs". The Anti-German propaganda would refer to the Germans as Huns and mock various features about their culture, and the same about the Japanese [mainly their facial features, like the stereotypical buck-teeth and Fo-Man-Chu facial hair].
I don't see really any problem with it. But, for five years of my life, I was raised by my Grandfather, who fought against the Japs, and lost 13 of his close friends in Pearl Harbor alone, even more in the rest of the Pacific Theater.
Sure, and bias is justified too, but it wouldn't be right to just ignore it. I mean we could rightously ignore it if it didn't matter (if it was trivial), if it didn't hurt anybody... But it did.
Still, I mostly agree with you as in, I don't like to see people take things totally backwards; saying the Japanese were the good guys, or that it was relative or anything of the sorts is the most offensive. The Japanese were in a bad way for everybody including themselves.

I saw this at Big Hollywood and wanted to punch a hole through my computer screen. As I said in my comment there, guess what? Some people ARE DIFFERENT. Some people think it's okay to commit unspeakable atrocities against civilians. Some people think it's okay to commit a sneak attack on a country on their way to oh, I don't know, TAKE OVER THE ENTIRE WORLD. But hey, we're just supposed to sit there and do nothing.
You wonder how a man who is over the age of 50 can possibly be so ignorant of history - not some obscure facts, but the basic history of his own country. And then to seemingly be proud to display his ignorance in public.
It's like one of the most horrible things ever happened in the history of my homeland.
As for the rest, I'm kind of slightly jsjkdg... not in a bad way, but more of a rather piqued and I want to correct the guy frankly. But, I did write a paper about the Japanese interment camps during WWII, and ethnocentrism for a Psychology report. It was a basic assumption of every Japanese person is "bad", even the Japs who were born here, were also thrown into cramped bunkers in the middle of nowhere. We can say it could be a precautionary measure. :\ I'm just saying my side and my opinion on the said topic. And during the Cold War we had a major crack-down on immigration.
Nonetheless, yeah... I should edit this when I have the time to watch the video when I get home.

So, i'm probably a slight bias.
