OK, so I'm starting to hammer down some actual choices now. Big thanks to tontetsu and natdog who have listened to me ramble on about this stuff for hours and has helped me with a lot of this. Also thanks to others who offered suggestions so far (chris1979, dissension, bluedrakeMonitor: Dell 2001FP. There, good, high quality RAM, coming in about $50 cheaper than the RAM you picked. Might try looking for similar parts on www.tigerdirect.com as they tend to be cheaper.

You're paying way too much for a machine ... you're already 200$ above tiger (my laptop), which plays everything I want. When I built my desktop, it cost me about $350. I would've been up to $700 with a high-end video card, which you haven't even selected yet.

As for the switch to AMD, I also swapped with my desktop, and I wish I hadn't. I have never had such an unstable machine. It crashes about twice a month, and that's too often for me.

Give me the specs of your laptop/desktop, I'm curious as to how you got a good gaming machine that will last several years with that kind of money. Do you have a wholesale license or something?

Personally, there is no way I'd run RAID0 without RAID1, it's just too risky for my data, but that would mean extra drives and a motherboard that supports RAID1 (or an add-in card, more expense). Why bother with RAID0?

I may end up doing RAID1, the motherboard supports it...

I wont argue as to the rest of the machine; as I would NEVER buy another Wintel (WinAMD) machine. BUT, I can tell you that keyboard is a piece of crap. I used one for a day and managed to break two of the keys. I admit; I am a hard typer. Yet, my MS Natural Elite has lasted months at work. My Apple Pro keyboards last about 6 months a piece.

Find me something nice that goes with red aside from the Diablotek one (which isn't bad but it's unfortunately only a mid tower and comes with a PSU, trying to avoid that) if you don't mind... blue is overdone. Plus the motherboard has red LEDs on it, so I don't want them to clash. (Yeah, I sound like a woman on that, don't I...)

Also bear in mind some Mid Towers won't let my motherboard fit in there, as it's a 12" by 10"...
