Being a patient in the hospital was one of the worst situations for House to be in; he had no computer, video games or programs on his Tivo to keep him entertained. Harassing the nurses kept him content for only a little while. He watched almost every game show on tv and called the contestants rude names when they got the answers wrong. Wilson dropped by a few times during the day to chat and House ventured out through the hospital every so often. Foreman and Chase had also come to his room to do differentials with him about the patient they still had. By 6 pm that night, their patient was diagnosed and had started treatment.
Around 7 that night, House decided to get out of his room for a little while and was almost fully settled in his wheelchair when Wilson came in.
“Uh, what are you doing?” Wilson asked.
“Going out for a stroll.” House replied, making sure his broken leg was secure and supported by the leg rest on his chair.
“Or, in your case, a roll?” Wilson smirked.
“Haha.” House replied sarcastically, rolling himself past Wilson and out of the room.
“Gee, I wonder where we’re going.” Wilson said dramatically.
As they walked - and rolled - through the halls of the hospital, House caught the glances he got from nurses and others; he figured they were wondering if he would be any nicer than usual, considering his current condition. He promptly put their curious minds to rest by barking at a nurse to get out of his way.
“Yes, you can still make nurses cry.” Wilson commented.
They were both quiet another moment before Wilson spoke up again.
“So, Cuddy thinks Aiden will need hearing aids?”
House’s knuckles turned white as he pushed the wheels on his chair. “Yeah.”
They stopped at the elevator and waited for it to open.
“She told me how you felt about that news.” Wilson added.
“Well good, then there’s no need to continue this conversation.” House replied as the elevator doors opened and the two men went inside. He hit the button for the fifth floor and watched as the numbers above the doors light up.
“You don’t want Aiden to go through what you’ve gone through.” Wilson began, also watching the numbers above the doors. “You think that if he has a disability, he’ll be miserable… like you.”
“Your insight, once again, astounds me.” House said.
They were both silent; Wilson waited for House to say more. He waited right up until the doors were about to open.
“People will treat him differently.” House pointed out as the elevator doors opened up at the fifth floor. “They’ll pity him.”
Wilson followed House out of the elevator. “He’ll have problems with people no matter what; everybody does. It won’t matter if he’s deaf, blind, too short or too fat. There’s not one person in this whole world that’s like by everybody.”
House gave him a look and they turned the corner of the hallway, coming into view of Aiden’s hospital room. They stopped at the nurse’s station as House tried to get a good look into the room.
“You know,” Wilson said quietly. “I know you’re the kid’s father, but you really are acting more like a stalker.”
“Excuse me for wanting to know how he’s doing.” He replied, seeing that Cameron was the only one in the room with Aiden. “No sign of Dumbass Dan.”
“Very creative.” Wilson commented.
“What are you guys doing here?”
They both turned their heads to see Dan standing there, a bag of take-out food in his hand.
“Well, this is a hospital and we are doctors.” House replied, a bite to the tone in his voice.
Dan nodded and looked House over as if he were mentally sizing him up.
“I have a patient on this floor.” Wilson said, trying to defuse the tension between the two men. “Dr. House is giving me a hand.”
“I thought you had people to help out for you.” Dan said to House. “Especially considering your current condition.”
“It’s a broken leg; I’m not dying.” House rolled his eyes.
“If you’ll excuse us.” Wilson said with a smile, grabbing the handles on the back of House’s wheelchair and taking him to the next side of the nurse’s station. “Do you really think being a jerk to Dan will help Cameron’s situation at all?”
House rolled his eyes again and turned his head to watch Dan go into Aiden’s hospital room.
*
Cameron smiled a little at Dan when he walked into the room and thanked him for bringing dinner. She updated him on Aiden’s condition as she tried to get Aiden to eat the food the nurse had just brought in.
Dan took his and Cameron’s food out of his bag and looked out into the hallway, towards the nurse’s station. “There’s something about that Dr. House guy…”
Cameron froze for a moment and didn’t turn to look at him. “What do you mean?”
“I don’t know.” Dan replied, watching House and Wilson talk to each other. He looked away. “There’s something I don’t like about him.”
Cameron took a deep, silent breath. “He’s harmless.” She frowned at Aiden. “Sweetie, you have to eat.” She said loudly so that Aiden could hear her a little.
Aiden shook his head and clamped his mouth shut tight.
She sighed and put his fork down. “He won’t eat. The medication must be making him nauseous.” Standing up, she turned and looked at her own food. “You know what…” She sighed tiredly. “I’m not all that hungry myself… I’ll save this for later.”
Dan nodded, watching her closely; he could see how drained she really was.
“I’m gonna go get some coffee and talk to Cuddy about getting a hearing specialist to come see Aiden.” Cameron said after a moment, then smiled a little and began to leave the room.
“Allison.”
She turned back to him.
“I’m sorry for going to work today.” He said. “I should have stayed here with you two.”
“It’s ok.” She replied. “We were fine.” Another tight smile formed on her lips and she left the room.

Cameron had a brief meeting with Cuddy, where she signed the necessary paperwork for Aiden to receive hearing aids. An appointment was made for the following day; Aiden would see the hearing specialist and be fitted for hearing aids.
After talking with Cuddy, Cameron went to the Diagnositcs Department, where she made tea for herself and sorted through House’s mail. By the looks of the pile on his desk, she could tell that no one had sorted his mail in the past few days; probably not since even before he was in the accident. She took the mail and sat down at her old desk in the conference room.
“Hey, Cameron. What’re you doing here?” Foreman asked, coming into the room. He was getting ready to leave.
“Checking House’s mail.”
“You know, you don’t need to do that.” He said, gathering all of his things.
“I know… I just needed something to do to get my mind off of things…”
Foreman nodded and put on his jacket. “Well, don’t stress too much about his mail and things like that; you already have enough to worry about.”
She smiled a little at him.
They said goodbye to each other and Cameron quickly finished with the mail. Grabbing her tea, she got up, put the important mail on House’s desk and left the office. She didn’t go back to Aiden and Dan right away. Instead, she went down to the recovery ward.
She half expected House to be out causing mischief all around the hospital, but instead she found him in his hospital room, watching tv. “Anything good on?” She asked, walking over to him and sitting down in the chair next to his bed.
“No.” He said, clearly bored. “I’m sick of game shows and I can only watch Animal Planet for so long before my chest starts to hurt.”
Cameron smiled. “It’s your heart getting bigger from watching all the adorable animals.”
“Ugh, I think I’m gonna be sick.” He rolled his eyes, causing her to smile. He put the news on and set the remote down.
“Did you… talk to Dan at all?” She asked.
“Possibly.” He replied. “He was giving me a hard time about being in pediatrics in ‘my condition’; that I couldn’t possibly be helping Wilson with a patient.”
“But you weren’t.”
“That’s beside the point.”
She sighed “I think he’s a little… on edge… about you and I.”
He looked at her, no emotion on his face.
Looking down, she shook her head and then looked back up. “Can you move over a little?”
House inched to one side of the bed as she crawled up next to him. She lay on top of the blankets, her head resting on the edge of his pillow. He was on his back watching tv while she curled up on her side, facing him.
“They’re discharging me in two days.” He said.
“I’m surprised you haven’t tried to escape.” She teased.
“I think Cuddy has me under surveillance now. That nurse Brenda is everywhere.”
Cameron laughed quietly, and then quickly sat up when the door slid open.
“Sorry.” Wilson said, a concerned - yet disappointed - look on his face. “Cameron, can I speak to you for a minute?”
Standing up, she shot a quick smile at House and then followed Wilson into the hall. “What’s up?”
“I wanted to talk about what happened earlier-“
“Yeah, I heard about that from Dan and Greg.” She frowned.
“Well, don’t you think it’s time to do something about this whole situation?”
She sighed. “I want to, believe me… It’s just not that easy… I mean, Dan thinks Aiden is his son-“
“And whose fault is that?” Wilson felt bad when he saw the hurt in her eyes, but he was speaking the truth. “What do you think is going to happen the next time House and Dan run into each other? Things will be said, possibly including some things you aren’t ready to tell Dan about.”
“I never meant for any of this to happen.” She said quietly.
“No one ever does.”
She looked back up at Wilson, the stress she was feeling plainly written across her face. “I just want Aiden and Greg to get better,” She paused for a moment as a nurse passed by. “then I’ll tell Dan.”
Wilson shook his head as he watched her turn and walk back into House’s hospital room. He couldn’t help but wonder what excuse she would use next to keep from revealing everything to Dan.

She had some how found herself at his door again and she stood there, looking around anxiously, waiting for him to let her in. He didn’t know she was coming over tonight, but he held the door open and welcomed her in with no questions asked.
They both stood there by the door for a minute - the television mumbling from across the room - before House turned and went back to his seat on the couch.
She followed him over after he sat down. On her way, she pulled her shirt off and tossed it to the side. Relaxing on the couch with his legs stretched out over the cushions, House watched her walk over. When she reached him, she was in her bra and panties; both black lace. She crawled on top of him and they kissed. At first it was tame, but it wasn’t long until they were impatiently removing his clothes.
Then, he was in her and she was riding him. He helped keep the pace, his strong hands holding onto her hips. She smiled when his head rolled back onto the arm of the couch and tossed her hair back out of her way. She continued to move as she sat up more but immediately froze when she saw that the front door was open. Turning her head, she looked straight ahead and found Dan standing there, glaring at the both of them.
“Surprise.” House said, still laying underneath her.
****
Cameron gasped quietly as she woke up. Looking around, she realized she was still at the hospital with Aiden. She had fallen asleep in one of the chairs and so had Dan, who was seated right next to her. She sat back, trying to relax as she remembered the dream she’d just had.
What did ‘surprise’ mean?
Going over it in her head, she decided it must have meant that she was worried that Dan would find out about her affair from House - or anyone else for that matter. She liked to hope that House would let her tell Dan but she knew that House was capable of saying hurtful things if he was confronted in a certain way - and what better way to hurt another man than by admitting you’re having an affair with his wife? Feeling drained, she closed her eyes.
She knew she had to come clean with Dan - and soon - but how could she do it?
