Is the idea taken from the comedy series Spaced? Not that I mind as I love the show and your fic is really good. Jared is really funny which I love and Jensen just seems be along for the ride.

Yep, you are correct! It's what I like to call "a loose adaptation". :D Spaced is one of my favourite series I've ever watched, and I'm really glad you're enjoying my take on it!
