Embarrassingly enough, I have no idea where it comes from. That particular artist -- found on the Japanese search engines -- seems to do a whole lot of Shinji/Aki art, and I just nicked the picture and touched it up a bit.

He was rather puzzled by this, running a hand through his knotted brown hair and smiling like he never would when he was older. <-- Ouch. That sentence, there was when it started to hurt.

Good fic! Though I have a different view on their relationship on canon (Shinjiro too proud and Akihiko too much of a dork for them to ever realize their feelings), I ship those two HARD and it's always good to find fic for them when they actually can have a bit of a rest before tragedy arises. And I have this huge soft spot with them as child/pre-SEES, so. I SQUEE'd. And almost cried a bit at the ending.

I agree with your "too proud and too dorky" view -- but, but, but it's so much easier to pretend they're actually a whole lot less stupid than they are in reality! ;D
