oh, and my favorite Nilda's cookies were the oatmeal chocolate chip, which were surprisingly sparse. it was always a sign of true thoughtfulness when someone would bring me one of those.

Vassar is not necessarily well known in fandom, but amongst readers.

I have been reading about Vassar or of characters in fiction who attend Vassar for a number of decades.

zephre is the first Vassar alum I have ever met.

I think it's a testament to the sheer number of references in popular culture - and the associated reputation(s). My mother gets the same reaction from people she knows - so it's not just fandom.

Oh, my gosh, I've never known anyone who went to Vassar either!
;)

I think that's true about a lot of US universities I've only heard of (with the exception of the big business schools, since some of the profs I used to work with came from the US), and I always find the different educational experiences interesting.
