at home with the weirdos

I think the Blog Every Day in April brigade probably had something more pithy in mind for entries, but I've got every day so far covered, I may as well go for the gold. Right? Here, have a funny family story.

I've toyed with the idea of a big, potent laser pointer. Kinda like the "Bat-Signal", except that with a laser pointer and a big solid backdrop like The Giant Cross, it'd actually *work*.

The shape? Sorta like a smiley face. Only with horns. Devil symbol, pagan symbol, take your pick.

Oh man, now I'm imagining a bunch of folks running around smacking at the laser image, like a cat with a laser pointer, you know? Only they're in much more distress and keep wailing about devils and whatnot.

It's a good think I'm already going to hell, really. ;)

I tried to come up with an atheist/humanist icon. So many people complain about crosses or other religious symbols, I thought maybe it would help if they had one, too, that communicated what matters to them. The best I could do was a simplified human figure, staring at the heavens, or toward a rising sun on the horizon. But when I advanced this on a web forum, the atheist/non-religion contingent just got mad. I don't understand, is it an anti-icon thing? Or just hatred of obnoxious Christians?
