the naming of characters is a difficult matter...

So my undying WIP (codename Torcmar until I think of something better) is in a state of flux (again) as I try to wrestle the story into something meaningful ( Read more... )

Inquiries about weddings? Are you a minister? Or a caterer?

Or perhaps a professional wedding guest, since one of the inquiries wasn't from a friend? ;-)

Just curious. (Or you may see it as nosy, so feel free not to answer if you'd prefer not to.)

The inquiries were about officiating weddings.

I'm an Interfaith Minister. This is no secret, and I blab freely about it all time.
I was ordained in NYC in 2005 after two years of Seminary there.

My seldom-updated ministry blog is over here: http://www.thesoulunfolds.com
I should get some new content up for it. (It's actually less about ministry as such as it is a long-winded social justice protest blog with a religious slant.)

I don't think calling her "Aaaargh" would be very helful, though it could be effective in a movie comedy.

:)

But boy, I empathize on the naming issue.

Is it because of internet associations that you don't want to call her Zephrene any more? Or do you have another reason? Character names are really important. Her name came first and, from everything I've read, it fits her perfectly.

When I started writing Guardian, someone told me I shouldn't have two characters with the same starting letter (at the time I had Shen and Silas), so I spent days battling over a new name for Shen, hated it and reverted straight back. It was his name, it suited him, just as Silas' name suited him.

If it suits her, stick with it. Don't worry about other associations that have come later. Your friends will be able to look past it and potential readers (when you get it published) won't know about any of them.

That's my two cents... ;-)
