Went with boycreature & friends to Shakespeare's Globe on Sunday for a production of Doctor Faustus that was at once a bit deconstructed and evocatively cobbled together with puppet-props, fantastic costuming, a sprinkle of avant-garde staging and hearty helping of humor to balance out TEH DRAMAZ ( Read more... )

Hells Yess indeed. That is a pic worthy of replacing Godric / Eric from True Blood.

Much Ado About Nothing? Those actors will do lots but yeesh I hate that play. The plot sucks, I hate the whole punishment that the guy who is not not Benedict (what the hell is his name? Too lazy to google...) gets is that he doesn't get to marry his cousin because he caused her death - but then oh hey! She's not really dead, she still likes you for some reason and you get to marry her after all. What Shakespeare on a deadline or some shit?

Yeah, the last time I read that play was as a first-year senior high school student, soooooo... pretty much the entire wedding scene / aftermath was just one big awful mess, agreed. I think it safe to say Will was both working on a deadline AND being paid by the word.

That said, Mr. Tennant was quite impressive as Benedick, and now that I have seen Catherine Tate as Beatrice, I can imagine no other leading lady in the role. There was also drag involved for Benedick, and for that alone I heartily approve of the production as a whole :b

But SWEET JAY-ZUSS, the fangirls at that show @___@; I wasn't the one outside the stage door at which all that shrieking and flailing was directed, but I was scared witless. Remind me to never become a television icon.
