So it's official internets: I broke up with House. The epic bromance was epic, and after coming on way too strong and then flailing around for the rest of this season, the Cuddy dynamic was just starting to feel right, and both of these things made it a really hard decision. Greg and I are still on good terms, in fact.

But I'm better off without ( Read more... )

What would be the straight-woman equivalent of a womanizer? Like, phonologically speaking? A manninizer?

The problem with the word is in its conception - "womanizer," words for male promiscuity tend to describe sexual conquest: "pimp," "ladies' man," "stud," while words for female promiscuity tend to be related to how accessible her body is sexually - slut, whore, skank, etc. I was trying to think of words that describe women devirginizing men but all I could really think of was "vamp" or "cougar," which both have pejorative implications that aren't appropriate.

I guess I vote for "Dona Juan." It's still defining female sexuality in terms of male sexuality, but it gets the point across.

Gendered language frustrates me.

See, this is exactly why I want to construct a new word. Fortunately, English is a total slut for mish-mashed nouns.

This is why I appropriate gender terms willy-nilly, though in this case you're wanting to describe heterosexual female -> male seduction right? Maybe something as simple as Lovable Sex Maniac XD

Wouldn't it be man-eater?
Still negative connotations, but cooler ones I think.

Going through literature the Lusty Widow is an old archetype, but conjures up visions of old women telling boy-toys what being able to take out her teeth will do for their sex life...

Please see the problematics of vamp and cougar above, as compared to male promiscuity imagery. My gal is more of a cuddlepuppy than a shark.

I haven't seen anything new of House, but the more I think about it, the more I think I have totally opposite opinions. I don't miss Cameron all that much because I was getting kinda sick of her whiny commitment issues that made me want to punch her in the face and go WOMAN. HAVE YOU SEEN THAT MAN. SHUT UP AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIM ALREADY. After much searching she finally found her legitimate reason to leave him, and left. I also kinda lose respect for strong female characters who suddenly decide they can't be complete without a baby.

Just goes to show I'm somehow apparently a closet manninizer and a misogynist. How'd that happen.

Haha, dude hating babies doesn't make you a misogynist. I wasn't initially a fan of Cuddy's sudden mad dash into motherhood either, but as it's progressed it really hasn't changed her as a person - she's still leading the hospital and handling House's crazy antics with just as much moxie as she had before. I gotta give the writers props for that.

Also I tend to look at film and television series with an only half-suspended disbelief. Yes, the people in them are supposed to be real, and that means flawed, and House is a show that has for most of its run handled personal flaws in a very thoughtful way.

But if a character starts to really suck, or just embody a trope, or act totally against their long-established personality roots, like Cameron did, that means that the people behind the scenes started writing them to suck. And that makes me angry with the Powers That Be behind the show. Which makes me break up with it. Thus ( ... )

Teeheehee, Wilson tearily proposting to House will be locked in a small corner of my heart with other squishy things forever. I liked those two recent episodes, whatever would have turned you off to them is beyond me ( ... )

I have yet to watch a single episode of House and have no knowledge of the other topics you touched upon so I cannot make any relevant comments but I do love that icon.
