I lack a good opening for this entry, so I'm just going to skip the formalities. This entry also will not have proper structure. It's hot. I'm jittery. Also, this entry will be about titties

"At least I hear that Koreans are repressed. I do know they're somewhat backward."
Er, I think you need to make it clear that you're aware there's a North Korea and a South Korea. One of those places is a repressed stoneage Hellhole, and the other is a perfectly modern, free society filled with amenities.
In what sense? They were a war-ravaged country a few decades ago and are now a strong economy with good public health care, serious education, low crime rates, excellent transportation systems (train, subway, bus), pretty much anything can be delivered, fastest internet in the world, strong economy...what part of this is backward?
do you have a link to the article you mentioned? although i'm korean, i had no idea this style of dress even existed, and i'm interested in reading about the reasons for it and the possibly revisionist explanation for this mode of fashion.
honestly, i clicked on this expecting some really immature/racist article, but you seem to be capable of intellectual analysis, which is a breath of fresh air :)
The first article is here: Women’s Life during the Chosŏn Dynasty. The second one, 조선 여성의 ‘젖가슴 사진’을 둘러싼 기억의 정치-그녀들의 ‘미니저고리’가 ‘아들자랑’이 된 사연 (The Bare Breast Bragging about Having a Baby Boy -The Politics of Memory on the "Women"s Breast Pictures" in Joseon) is behind a paywall. I have it, so, hm, I could send it to you, or something? If I had your address... It's sure to be the more interesting one. The author also seems like a really nice person.

Nicely done! After five years living in Korea, it's become quite interesting to see how much the 'official' story diverges from the reality of the past. It's not often down - especially in English - so kudos to the legwork.
I'm doing more legwork now, I think. Thanks Reddit, I love getting crucified because a post I wrote in my personal journal mostly for my own enjoyment (and possibly while drunk) doesn't conform to academic and journalistic standards... Obviously one can't be any less rigorous whether writing a Ph.D dissertation, an article for the Washington Post or a blog that normally gets the readership of maybe half a dozen people
