I have/had the books but the first one was really boring when I tried to read it. Do they get better after a slow start or what?

If by 'the first one' you mean Over Sea, Under Stone, then yes. Read The Dark is Rising first, and if you like it, go on to Greenwitch and The Grey King. Only go back to the first one if you want to fill in some of the stuff mentioned in Greenwitch and The Grey King. In my opinion, OSUS works better as background filler than as a book in its own right. The last one, Silver on the Tree works best if you've read all of them.

And if you mean you read The Dark is Rising first and didn't like it, then you probably won't like the others.

What Tem said.

I, of course being the odd person that I am, started with Over Sea, Under Stone and spent the first several chapters of The Dark Is Rising trying to figure out where the characters from OSUS were and all. ;))

But they do get much better!!! :x :x :x

YAYAYAYAY!!!

Hopefully Netflix will come through for me. I say that because disc 1 had been number 2 on my queue and instead they sent me discs 3 and 5 in the queue even though they were all supposed to be available. /:) But I wanna play along!!! :x :x :x

I didn't much care for the tv series for a number of reasons. Trillian is one of them. The actress who played her (Sandra Davies?) *always* plays fluffy blonde bimbos as far as I could ever tell. I can't, off-hand, think of someone who could carry off that combination of airheadedness and super-brainy, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. *sigh*.

And *yay*! for watching them!
