My Inner Life: Chapter 15 - A Newfound Power

Apr 27, 2010 15:29

ZeldaQueen: Well folks, as you all may recall, Dark Link was killed in an extremely improbable though predictable use of deus ex machina, by way of the Sue setting herself alight and burning him up. Now as you know, I'm saving all ranting for this chapter, since this is the chapter were it's all properly explained. Midna and Ganondorf are still ( Read more... )

Well, this was annoying.

I hate it when people are "the chosen ones" of anything. Yes, you can tell a good 'chosen one" story, but for the most part I find them annoying. What about people doing what they want and being what they are by the choices they've made, good and bad? Things like being born to be X thing usually just gets on my bad side.

And can she stop using the word my love?! Again, it's not cute at all. It is not like when Guido calls Dora princess because it carries double meaning in the movie (1) reminder the whole thing is a fairy tale, 2) he calls her that only when he surprises her) Just calling somebody your love doesn't make it so.

Oh! By he way, did you watch the movie? I'm curious if you are in the "ones that love it" or "ones that hate it" and why.

I agree, predestination and the like tends to cheapen things for me. It's even worse because I'm fairly sure there isn't any payoff. She never really actually does save Hyrule, to the best of my knowledge.

I started to see it and I think it's pretty good thus far. Guido is funny ^_^

You know, I don't love Harry Potter but one of the few things I did like was the fact that Harry wasn't really "the chosen one" at the end in the conventional way. He was "chosen" by Voldie and Harry had chosen to fight back but it might as well had been Neville.

Still, I prefer Bartimaeus trilogy over HP because there's no chosen one, among many other things I enjoy over that series. There's also a better gray zone, humans are seen in a more varied light (Kitty FTW!!), there's the anti magic equivalent, the politics of magicians and so forth.

I just try my best to avoid the idea of being chosen vs making our own choices. And even more so when there is no pay off, as you said.

So I'm to assume you haven't been too far into the movie. XD Your comment would be more loaded if you had.

P.S: I don' hate HP, I like it. I even own the series... because I found all the hard cover 30$ books in almost new state for 5$ each, but the point is I bought them and I have kept them. It's a good series, just nowhere near my favorite.

Yeah, that's the thing about the prophecies in HP - they didn't *have* to come true and many of them didn't. The only reason the one about Harry was going to was because Voldemort insisted on fulfilling it (because he was so blind to free will that he thought it was impossible to thwart it)

I've never read that Bartimaeus trilogy, but it sounds interesting. ^^

Nope, not very far at all. ^^; When finals are over, I'll get farther in. *notes comment* XD

I understand, and I know what you mean. Good, not great (to use a phrase from "Stranger than Fiction")

Called it! Called it the fuck out for the contrived bullshit it was!

And really, Suethor? Your love is so great and true, yet even your darlingest studbunny can't escape the wrath of your ego. WOW.

Amazing, isn't it? And she still tries to make it look like "Oh, I'll be able to HELP my darling dearest, not steal his thunder, nope!"

I think Jenna may well be on her way to a Black Hole Sue now.

Off home now; will begin the spork and hopefully have it done by the end of the evening. It is...just wtf. So I'll be needing something to....distract me.

Jenna Silverblade...Silverlites...Silverblade...Silverlites.
It's not very subtle, is it?
Bloody Sue Species. Stealing the Hero of Time's thunder. My theory is that the rest of the Hyrulean species had enough of them and eliminated them all.

Why the hell is Avalon in the LoZ universe? By the sound of it she made up 'Kalence' so why not make up another one? Actually, I'm begining to think that King Arthur is the only one who can purge the Sue from Hyrule. Maybe Avalon should stage an invasion.

I can't be bothered to check, but how many times does Jenna say that something is "a long story"? (Ruto: "I don't care if it's 'a long story', it's my Temple you bitch!") (Zelda: "If it threatens Hyrule, then I have time.") And how many times do people say "Wow! You really do have elemental powers you clever thing you!"? Blegh, repetition.

I thought she DID make up Avalon. What else was it from?

I don't know. The Suethor seems to have the writing skills of a second-grader though, so it's probably a lot.

Essentailly, it's part of British mythos.
Avalon is a holy isle from Arthurian legend; Morgan Le Fey lives there, it has tasty apples, it's connected to the Fisher King (and the Grail) and King Arthur suposedly sleeps there and will return to the British Isles when he is next needed.

Oh, thanks!

Well it certainly sounds a heck of a lot more interesting than anything in THIS fic!

you don't know me, but i've been reading your sporks for at least two days now, and i've found them hilarious, especially when dealing with self-glorifying self-contradicting bullshit like this.

I love how Zelda automatically assumes that because jenna controls fire, she can control wind, earth and water as well. we never even see her trying to control the other elements in this chapter, and I don't think even for the rest of the fic.

And really, there's no reason to even make it that she can control those three elements, besides making her look more special. She only ever uses fire in the fic!

I'm glad you like 'em! I aim to please. ^_^

I think the Suethor copied the 20 year war thing from Barbie Rapunzel, where these two kingdoms were fighting because one king suspected the other of stealing his daughter. The rivalry ended when Rapunzel was found.

So...like, prove me wrong? ^_^;

I'd love to...but I really can't. Barbie Rapunzel was released in 2002, correct? It looks like My Inner Life was released a year later, so it's really impossible to say. ^^;

Although given how the Suethor seems rather fond of The Dragonriders of Pern, it does seem more likely that she was copying from that. I don't know much about that fandom, so I can't say.
