ZeldaQueen: Well folks, we're on the home stretch. Just a few chapters left until the end, and nary a sign of resolution in sight. Why am I getting deja vu?
Cassie Clare must have been taking notes on "how to kill any and all tension/suspense with unnecessary and banal dialogue" from the Casts. Jesus Christ. I had to summarize the "climax" of City of Bones and it was almost exactly like this.
Hear, hear! THAT makes a hell lot of sense and is more interesting.
Too bad the Casts don't seem to have a history of intelligent story-writing. I read a few of PC Cast's goddess series and they're just a whole bunch of tripe. You know, your usual Harlequin or Fabio romance. According to fans the books gets worse and worse as it goes, so... I don't want to imagine how bad THOSE are if even the fans call them bad.
Dude, just reading the book summaries shows them going worse and worse! The last one apparently consists of Artemis hooking a lonely, desperate woman in modern times with Apollo to somehow prove their divine power to some king. What?
Oh, and there's that stupid one where Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena try to stop the Trojan war by replacing the princess of Troy with a modern-day teenage girl, with the intent for her to romance Achilles.
Well, I can understand busting out at a funny situation in action, like in Pirates of The Carribean or something, but considering nothing happens throughout the rest of the series its really not justified at the climax. Kristin blurts out the whole "SHES BASED OFF OF MEEEEE!!!!" in interviews ALL THE TIME. Its kinda weird. Those Casts, they aren't subtle about ANYTHING.
Jeez, I wrote my first finished story at age thirteen, and even though it's just horrible in every way, I'm convinced that it had a better climax than this. And that story included me killing off almost all characters one by one because it was too difficult for me to keep track of them all, and a deus ex machina that brought them all back to life again at the end.
It's painful when there's this much long-winded build-up, and they get away from the problem that easily. It really is.
