[From the white shores of Lake Hylia, a THUNK of steel against wood rings out across the still, frozen water. Another thunk, then another, and at last the tree branch Link has been hacking at gives way. The Master Sword reduced to a woodcutter's tool--it's probably some sort of blasphemy, but it's not like he has any other choice. Shivering painfully, the lone figure in green stoops to scoop up the broken branch, and carries it over to add to a pile of similarly makeshift logs.]
Straight from the middle of summer to the depth of winter. Perfect. Perfect.
[Muttering to himself, Link sits crosslegged in the snow before the pile of kindling and fuel and takes a set of flint and steel from a pouch at his belt. How exactly he's come to be here, on the shores of Lake Hylia on a freezing, silent evening when last he recalled he was in the Lost Woods in the middle of a sticky-hot summer day he doesn't understand in the slightest, but that particular problem is being forced to take second volley to a more immediate one: preventing himself from freezing to death. Without Epona, the bedroll in her pack or even winter garments, the prospect is unpleasantly imminent.
His hands are trembling so badly he can barely strike the flint against the steel, and he isn't even sure the kindling is dry enough to light.]
This is so not funny. This is really bad, as a matter of fact...c'mon, just light--
[Flint and steel drop from his numb fingers.]
--Damn it.
[He stares at his hands, already reddened and chapped and probably well on their way to frostbite, and rubs them together briskly until some modicum of feeling is restored. Then he picks the flint and steel from the snow, and grimly tries again.]
((ooc: this is
hylianxsheikah and
timedrummer mun with a new character, adding to the many Links...I'm considering apping him to a game so I figured I might as well try him out, though I'll probably end up keeping him around here as well, so hopefully y'all don't mind one more? This is straight-up post-OoT Link (many years post, he's had time to grow up again), nothing particularly special about him other than a quirky sense of humor and a serious hero complex. And when I say serious, I do mean serious. He takes being the Hero of Time very much to heart, not just because the goddesses dumped the mantle in his lap but because it's the right thing to do. If you/your friends/your princess need saving, he'll run right out to do it, whether or not you ask. And if he fails, he'll take it very hard.
He's a friend to all things small and cute and so nice that you might want to smack him just to see if he'd get mad about it, but he's not all warm fuzziness. In spite of his dedication to his destiny, this Link looks at being one of the goddesses' chosen with a rather jaded perspective, since it's essentially ruined his life and put what he wishes for most permanently out of his reach. That's all I'll say for now, but if you ask him he might tell you what he means. Oh, and he'll probably be very intent on protecting any Zelda he meets.))
