Dissonance

He picks up on rhythms easily, almost too easily. Everything has a rhythm, and walking is no different. Breathe in, breathe out; heartbeat steady; well-worn boots crunching softly, so softly, against the grass. His pack shifts with the motion, side to side, in and away. It isn't as resonating as his drum, but he doesn't care. It's steady just the ( Read more... )

Link, still getting used to being trapped in this demon god's mask, has spent most of the day sitting on top of the tree on the far end of what everyone seems to claim is Lake Hylia. It's almost childishly small compared to the lake he knows, and not even half as deep--he can tell from here, the water clear enough to see the lakebed from this height--but the smell is the same and the sound of water doesn't change much no matter where one goes, so it's all right ( ... )

This place is very different from where he was. Older, almost, and yet younger, with an odd sense of precarious stability. The sounds of life do make him feel a bit better about the place, as does the steady sound of the water. This place is alive, wherever it is.

There's something else in the air, an odd kind of tension that he senses more than he truly feels. He barely has time to open his eyes before he senses a power that shouldn't be this familiar.

Someone's here.

"You could say I am, I suppose. I don't know where I am," he says, standing up and turning around. He doesn't recognize the man, but the tattoo on his forehead... the man is a warrior, and he can hear the Void.

That explains the familiar power, at least, though the thought brings him little comfort. He should know everyone who can bear blue, and he doesn't know this man at all. And there's something else, something he can't place that nags at him nonetheless.

"Are we near the Canyon?"

"Near the..." He muses on that for a moment, eyebrows drawing downward. He's heard of the so-called Gerudo Canyon--which he assumes is like the Mesa back home--but honestly he still doesn't know quite where it is. "I'm afraid I don't know. I'm pretty new here myself."

He comes a little bit closer, giving a glance around that's mostly for show, then gestures vaguely with his hand. He has his gauntlets off, so the Triforce mark on it burns bright gold just shy of his knuckles. "People here say this is Lake Hylia, if that's any help."

New here... Strange thought. "Can you at least tell me where here is?"

He scowls slightly when he sees the gold. That's far too bright to be a tattoo, and what is that strange symbol? He gets a faint sense of some kind of power from it, but it's entirely foreign.

"You aren't from the Canyon, are you? Then why do you have a warrior's mark?"

He hears footsteps, footsteps and power, familiar yet seemingly ancient. Still, it's good to know that there's someone here besides him, so he turns towards the sound.

"Am I closer to the Canyon than I thought?" he thinks aloud, noting the familiar sword-point on the other's forehead. The eyes give him pause; they're empty and white, so much like his own when he loses himself...

He stands. He doesn't see any sign of hostility on the other's part, but now he's wary. He debates going for his blade, but he isn't quite willing to betray that secret just yet.

"I mean you no harm."
