Brian Jaques! D: Bawww it's not fair

A tremendous part of my childhood passed away over the weekend. Brian Jacques, author of the Redwall series, died of a heart attack at 71. I think he must have been having blood pressure problems for some time now; he had a mild stroke several years ago, but recovered ( Read more... )

I admit the books got repetitive, but sometimes that's exactly what I need. My life got weird and difficult a lot of times over my teen years, and a lot of the time I needed a place where, while life might be difficult and dangerous, it was never complicated, someone was always ready with a funny comment, and most of the population was huggable and non-threatening without actually inducing metaphorical diabetes.

Man... this really comes as a shock. I, too, read and adored Redwall when I was younger. It's a pity they never released any books past The Long Patrol in Swedish - I could get them in English, though they're not my highest priorities. Besides, I'd want the British editions since I dislike the American covers, but I can't seem to find them. Though the American ones are better than no books at all. I dunno if I'd enjoy reading them as much nowadays as I used to, though ( ... )

My favorite was Salamandastron -- I was drawn so deeply into that book that I became oblivious to everything around me in the middle of a class, and much as I love reading that rarely happens.
Sad news, but thanks for passing it along, and with the nice tribute.
