What about adding negative numbers? Pretty sure it doesn't get "bigger" then.

okay *fine*. but these kids are only working with natural numbers. Besides, even if you're adding negative numbers, and they're all negative, the amount becomes smaller, but the numbers still achieve a greater magnitude >.> like... -1 +-4= -5.
