And what she said was right and wrong- it's true that "drag queens" have more of a place in society than "drag kings"- while not accepted by everyone, by far, it is generally accepted as a profession/lifestyle when drag kings are still fighting. However, thats if she was only taking about drag queens, and not trannys, fems, etc...
... because men then have a hard time being "just" feminine. Man in just a skirt? Makeup? Long hair? He will get thoroughly abused, while a woman can, in fact, wear pants and have short hair and not be questioned. Overall, I think men will have the harder time because they have to constantly assert their masculinity, so, god forbid! Someone calls them a fag! Cause gays are sooooooooo unmasculine, amirite? Grr.
I could go on and on about gender in art and society, but I'll spare you...
PS! Hows everything otherwise? School holding itself together? You checking out any of those presidential candidates?
I will admit that--I honestly had no idea the genderflipped version of drag queens existed until coming here, aheeh...
Exactly. Because of today's increasingly gender-neutral wardrobe (or rather, masculine wardrobe acceptable for all,) it can be kinda easier for a girl to wear men's clothes and either pass or... just be a girl.
SO unmasculine! there's no such thing as a gay guy who's into sports or a slightly feminine-tendencied but honest-to-goodness straight man! naaah /flaps hand
It'd probably be easier to listen to than my class was...
PS--Haha, seems to be! I haven't had the time or brainspace to, yet, unfortunately...
I understand that totally- its so hard to get out and go to the lectures or events when your a student because you work so hard...
...Sex and gender performance are my favorite topics!!! I had a jolly good time explaining to a friend the difference between a Drag Queen, Transexual, and Transvestite yesterday... and I have dreeeeeams of a gender fluid society.
Have you seen my drag king, Boy Blue? It's on my Facebook, somewhere XD.
