The benefits of not mowing

Between rainstorms yesterday afternoon, the foxes came out to play in the field of flowers and grass.  This is a field and not a lawn because I choose not to mow it.  The kits were practicing the signature fox lunge.  They will use this skill to pounce on prey in the future.  Pairs of bobolinks were scoping out nesting locations in the tall grass ( Read more... )

Fascinating video.

I've never before seen a fox bark nor seen one run. And how they can run!

Speeding automobiles are probably the fox's worst enemy around here. :(

They do have an interesting yelp. At night, when it's foggy and the barks echo across the river, it sounds kind of spooky.

So true...alas, an issue for most wildlife these days (well, except maybe wild hogs which have such a low center of gravity that in car vs pig they often win)
