Three excellent things about today

1. The Sunday Times ran an article on the 10 best love stories of all time. No. 6? Brokeback Mountain! Go Sunday Times (trashy newspaper that it is)!

2. Neither bardiegrub nor I were eaten by a shark at the beach this morning, and I got in the water in a somewhat less wimpy fashion than is my wont

In my neck of the woods the water is usually cool enough that sharks aren't much of a worry. I'm not sure I would get in the water in any fashion if I suspected they were so common that a helicopter patrolled for them. Seriously, you're my hero.

And \o/ for Brokeback Mountain!

Someone was taken by a shark here just last week, though it was only the 4th or 5th fatal attack in 200 years. There have been several sightings and they've cleared the beaches several times since - it's the time of year when the fish are close to shore, or something? I didn't go in very far!

I was surprised and pleased to see a gay love story get a mention!

there's actually been 14 fatal shark attacks in WA according to this:
