Just following on from the discussion at today's slash gathering:

If I was 25, had just got a big promotion and didn't know what to do with all the extra money (not that I'm thinking of anyone in particular!), I'd read $1 Million For Life by Ashley Ormond. It was just published last year, so it's very up-to-date, it's easy to read, and the author ( Read more... )

I've read Ashley's other book, about investing for your children's future - it was fantastic.

He's also very accessible (and engaging) via email.

The first book was a lifechanging experience for me. He told me this book was coming out, so now I shall go and hunt it down.

Isn't it great how he responds to email! I was most impressed. He seems to be a really genuine, helpful person.

This new book is even better.

He's speaking in Perth early next month, though I think on a fairly specialised topic. I'll find the details for you.

It's on EFWs and seems to be for financial planners. I jumped from his site to have a look at it and it didn't look like it was aimed at non-professionals.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have been looking for some good books, and most are not pitched "right" for me.

If you try them and don't like them, let me know why not and I'll see if I can suggest something else!

I've found most personal finance books specifically targeted at women totally miss the mark for me, but these two are aimed at anybody and they're reasonably engaging as well as informative.

I've only read one aimed at women, and it's definitely aimed at a different generation. Hand all my financial stuff over to my husband? Assume that someone else will look after me when I'm old?... What?

Ashley's web page with its big fonts and colours looks like it was designed by a 5-year-old. The totally non-functional buttons at the very top only reenforce that view. I'd find it hard to get past that ... it's like someone trying to sell me a serious product while wearing a clown outfit.
