Tree Planting Day 2007

Aug 15, 2007 23:27

Many thanks to those of you who came to my tree planting day on Sunday. I've been away since Sunday night and today was the first time I got to see all the trees in their new homes. Nice work!

Awesome pictures!!! It all looks so beautiful! Not to mention the scenery makes me pine for the gorgeous 'off the grid' stress relief feeling i had the whole day.

That area you were in is one of my favourite spots on the whole place. There's a big rock in the top left-hand corner that was what made me think yes, it would be worth years and years of mortgage payments!

You know when I was up there and looking at the rocks, especially the tall mini-cliff looking one, I wondered if it hadn't been part of your motivation for buying the property. Though honestly, it's just so amazingly beautiful, I was truly awestruck by it.

YOU CAN SHOW MOST OF THEM, just not the ones where I'm on the other side of the fence because I look hideous in those!!! What about the one where mr_booboo is clearly reeling away from the llama. I'm in that! You can show the one with my crossed arms and grumpy face! Just not the fence ones!

Your property is beautiful. The photos are amazing. Well done you.

The ones on the other side of the fence are the good ones! You look adorable!

It's gradually getting nicer and nicer out here. In ten years it should be really different, assuming no big fires between now and then!

I can feel you pouting from here omg!! Fine! Just not 1 and 3, please. Any of the others.

Wild horses wouldn't get me to admit that I enjoy gardening in any way shape or form, but let me just state that I would be HORRIBLY OFFENDED if you were to not invite me in the future.

Also PICK ME for the firestarting and chainsawing. *elbows cricketk out of the way*

Don't worry, I think I've probably just about overdosed people on llama pictures by now.

It's not gardening. It's revegetation. Totally different, no similarities at all.

I'm sure I can find continued uses for those of you for whom that's actually true! I'd like to do more about erosion along the creek before next winter.

It's a tradition now! I would be saddened and not know what to do with myself if you took it away.

*makes grabby hands*

Also! is there a need for more rushes along the creek banks? They suck to plant but I was thinking that buffalo grass needs more competition.

Having said that my and my flu's contribution was more in providing light entertainment, a willingness to discuss TV pilots and graphic novels with a tiny bit of light planting in soft ground and quick foray into lying about how many seedlings we left to cheer people up.

I just don't want there to be a sense of obligation for people to come out to do the same thing, and also for my mother to cook for a large group, year after year! I can easily find things for those who are interested. Fires, erosion control, fencing, chainsawing and axing, planting, etc etc etc! I'm thinking smaller groups to work on specific smaller projects might be the way to go for a while. I would love to have one more big tree planting day to do the area under the knoll across the road, and possibly the area near the neighbour's old shearing shed, but it'd have to be very wet for both of those and I'd have to do a lot to protect against kangaroos first ( ... )

I speaketh for myself here but I suspect others would weigh in.

I enjoy the sense of being part of a community, I enjoy being able to care for some land, I enjoy being with people who share common goals and I really enjoy being your friend. It's not an obligation; I look forward to it.

Small projects also sound like fun and if the catering is a burden for your mother I would happily bring a plate of food - we could certainly make it easier!
