:-D Jane/Joanie is my favorite pairing after Seth/Sol. I'm squeeing over here that I'm not alone! The scene that sealed it for me is the one where Joanie says she doesn't like new boots or funerals. I so adore her. "Oh, I speak French." Heh.
I didn't really take to Joanie until she was out from under Cy's clutches. Must watch Season 1 again and see if I have the same reaction. The "I speak French" line was good, I agree!
What won me over, even before she started interacting with Jane, was the way she reacted to the three murders and the dissolution of her business venture. When I had a really tough work day a few days after watching those episodes, I kept reminding myself that in comparison it really wasn't that bad!
I've never really thought about them as a slash couple (I think it's because femmeslash doesn't blip on my radar much), but I do love the two of them together. I've been really smitten with Joanie since the beginning, but I especially loved her in S2, and Jane is just wonderful, period. You mentioned all my favorite scenes, but I love the one where she first comes to see Joanie best. You can see that Joanie brings out something more human in Jane almost immediately, and that Jane brings Joanie's pretty dormant sense of humor out, too.
It took me until S2 to warm to Joanie, I think because in S1 I saw her more as a part of Cy's operation than as a person in her own right.
I hadn't heard any mention of Jane/Joanie until I saw the Yuletide stories, but it's the pairing that makes the most sense to me! So far. Ah, the danger of watching a current show.
