Catching up on Temeraire

It's year-end for accountants in Australia, so I'm busy crunching numbers (crunch, crunch, crunch). I find that fantasy goes excellently with accounting. It pulls the mind away from spreadsheets and sends it off with dragons, so I've been making time to read at least a little bit every day.

The first book is my favorite, as well. I loved Crucible of Gold, too - it was like she was writing fanfic of her own work!

That scene with Levitas still makes me sad, I love how he dragged his captain to make him say goodbye and when he got back the commander was like, WELL? and Laurence thought he was in trouble for his conduct but the commander only cared about Levitas. And Hollin's disbelief and joy! And the dragons getting ideas above their station according to Berkley wryly because they now want to bathe in lakes and be cleaned *g*

Looking forward to the new book next week, relieved to hear the amnesia storyline works well.

You might find the first third, in which Laurence and Temeraire are separated, slow. The most interesting parts of it to me were the new kinds of dragon. I found it picked up a lot in the second third, in which they're reunited but Laurence still doesn't have his memory.

Only a week to go - that seems to have gone quickly to someone watching from the sidelines!

You've reminded me that I haven't read these latest books either! Time to rectify that.

I was surprised at how much time had gone by since I caught up! Now that I have, I'll be keen to read the final book as soon as it comes out in 2015.
