Remineralisation

I didn't notice much positive effect the last time I did this, but the intervening years built up my optimism and willingness to ignore my previous experience to the point that I was again almost enthusiastic about spending thousands of dollars trying to remineralise my paddocks ( Read more... )

Now there's a ton of work, no question about it. The llama and alpaca are awesome. I love tractors, especially old ones, but I'd take these any day. Hope it helps the soil. I would think that it should.

It's a very inexact science - you soil test from about 30 different spots and then mix it all together to get recommendations for the whole property, there are differences in the actual calcium and magnesium percentages in the dolomite compared to what the soil lab assumed, the spreader doesn't apply it evenly or get to every part of the property, and finally the rain washes the bare spots away and it ends up in clumps where there is more ground cover. After all that, you just have to hope it works out close enough to right to be helpful!

purchasing dolomite always _sounds_ like purchasing a marble kitchen bench or statue :-)
