The Great due South Rewatching Project

Dec 14, 2004 21:59

I've been trying to finish a needlework project to give to my mother for Christmas (my lifestyle doesn't currently entertain needlework, but it did for a short while three years ago when I started it!).  That's given me an opportunity to spend a lot of time in front of the television and brush up on dS Season 3/4 ( Read more... )

It's not dS, it's me... I just rarely appreciate comedy/wacky in general. I'm missing the gene. I had to watch one of the Monty Pythons in company once and it was a huge struggle to pretend that I was having a remotely good time.

I had a big smile on my face at the end of Call of the Wild today - there was no negativity at all!

And I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of S1&2. Fraser especially is one of those characters that I find I can keep thinking about and discover more and more. I got interested in dS because of RayK (and your, emma_in_oz and sarren's relentless pimping), but it's Fraser that has me hooked. I feel like I've still only just scratched the surface.

That's probably the best kind to be!

I liked many things about Eclipse. I liked Ray's emotional (where you read neediness)and physical (blind without glasses) vulnerability and his trust in Fraser to tell him the truth. Then he tells Fraser the truth about who he is and his past as well. They shared! Watch the barriers fall! Watch them let each other in! *excited meepy noises*

Please note that I have not seen this episode for more than a year and am remembering the bits I particularly liked. I hated the way he ignored Fraser's gift - even though it was something he really needed (if I remember correctly, it features in the "coming to grips with the past" moment in the coffin as the eclipse happens). Which, you know, I could read as Fraser having a better understanding of Ray than Ray does of himself.

Cheers,
K

I'm all for the vulnerability and would be making meepy noises myself if it occurred later. It's the timing that bothers me. Eclipse is the second Fraser/RayK episode, so presumably they haven't known each other very long. More importantly, Ray is supposed to be at work - not just for a normal day, either, but for an internal investigation. His behaviour in putting his own (fairly ridiculous) concerns first strikes me as very self-centred.

Fraser is extremely generous here, IMO.

Also,

Your passionate defence of TS finally got me off my arse to start watching again. I really do love those boys.

Oh, I think I love you.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I do.

I'm going to have to look at these more closely when I'm really awake. But yay!

Glad you enjoyed (if you did enjoy, in the cold light of day!). I decided my dS canon knowledge could stand some improvement, particularly in light of my recent posts!

I really did enjoy it looking again just now. I loved most everything you did, and I like that you thought to mention things I would never have remembered, like Huey's voice. There are a couple little disagreements, which is remarkably few, considering ( ... )

Ray's landlady saying to Fraser "don't take anything"

I must watch that again - you're right, that was funny!

the Smarties in Ray's coffee, info on Ray's service record, how Ray got his name

All good stuff. I love the fact that we get to see his apartment. (But would they be Smarties? I assumed they'd be M&M's, since he's in the US. Must watch again. Now I have two reasons to re-watch my least favourite episode!)

Did you watch with a friend?

Not this time - I watched them all sitting at home by myself, sewing, sewing, sewing! I've seen some of them with friends in the past.

The only part of the Christmas speech I really like is the part I quoted - I get excited about positive (well, it's neutral, I guess) non-religious references. I agree that the "forgiveness" bit is kind of out of place, as are his unhappy childhood memories!
