A friend of mine decided to watch Akagi before Ten because the subbers (The Triad) of Akagi filled it with Mahjong notes. After that he started with Ten again and found it much easier to follow all the mahjong. Since I don't think that you would learn more than the very basics from that, I think you now more than enough to enjoy Ten (and also like Gorogoro said, they explain a lot of stuff in the manga).
Thanks for more Ten! Has been a while since you gave us a batch of chapters, hasn't it? Great that you found the time (and motivation, especially) to give us a couple of chapters at once!
It's true that I didn't bother going out of my way to make it more accessible - I figured anyone reading would probably know mahjong to a greater or lesser extent in the first place, and the rest could be picked up by googling. (I also didn't think more than about 5 people would be reading it, and yet over 100 people turn up to download it right after I release each chapter set, so that shows how much I know.)
Now that I'm past the worst, the rest should be smoother. This is still my least favorite part of the series, but I can start to feel how close I'm getting to the end now. Only 28 chapters left!
What's so bad about using donations to let the group members have a good time? I really don't see the problem at all. Aren't donations supposed to be some sort of "Thanks" from the community? What are they supposed to be used on then? Scanlation equipment? Yeah right. (No, I'm not from a Scanlation Group who take donations, I just don't see it.)
If that's how you view it, then by all means, go ahead and donate.
Here's my thinking though: If you borrow a DVD from a friend and copy it, it's copyright infringement, but nobody is profiting from it. It doesn't make it right, but it could be marginally justifiable (out of print, etc.) [ie, I've been doing Ten because it will never be licensed and translated officially. Never.]
On the other hand, if you buy a bootleg DVD, someone is turning a profit from their illegal activities. You can talk all you want about the cost of blank DVDs and packaging, but at the end of the day, someone is making a profit from the original creator's work, without giving anything back to them. How can anyone justify that?

Quick question though, I only know the basics of mahjong, I can play the game, I just haven't memorized all the complicated hands.
Would I still be able to enjoy this manga?

I'd say at least give it a try until Akagi's first appearance!
