The *only* thing I can think of us is that she read it as minute as in a segment of time. I know when I first saw it, that is what my brain read.

I could understand that if she had marked it wrong, but not with her explanation of not using big words.

sadly, she knew what he said. she simply chastised him for "using a big word he did not know the meaning of" w/o even asking him what the meaning was.

This doesn't illustrate that he knows their exact meaning?!

I would have suffered terribly under his teacher, I believe. Gah.

me too. reminds me of this teacher my brother had in the 5th grade that didn't like country kids. the assistant teacher would mark something right & she would go and mark it as wrong.
he was so freaked out by her treatment of him that he woke one morning & couldn't see for about a half hour. (hysterical blindness?) that was scary i tell you.

When you go to that parent/teacher conference, I would highly recommend the school stop using a coach to teach English. Or a band director. Or whomever it is that obviously wasn't schooled in vocabulary and grammar that they have teaching.

Seriously, WTF? How embarassing for that teacher.
