Oh, I love Bobby too... I had to race through writing this because it had a copy date [which I still missed by two weeks!] but I would have loved to have gotten some more Bobby in there...
“This isn’t just about Lilith ending your brother, Sam,” she murmurs. “A deal is a deal. The angel may have pulled Dean out, but Hell is where he’s supposed to be and he’s going back there unless you kill Lilith. Stopping the apocalypse is the bonus.” Sneaky trick. One more good reason - good intention - for Sam to go all-or-nothing on Lilith. Maybe THE reason to loose the last inhibitions?
If I ever again hear you say your brother gave in to thirty years of torture that we can’t even begin to imagine, so help me I will knock you into next year. Is that clear
This Bobby has earned his right to smack Dean after Sam ran out in "When the Levee breaks". THIS Bobby? Is pure gold.
(Uuuh, and kinda-sorta telling Sam that in a choice-situation, he'd chose Dean? Ouch again.)
You know, it is nice to go back to this with hindsight and write in all of that manipulation, albeit that I am trying to keep it as subtle as possible since it needs to be believable that Sam would fall for Ruby’s line. I’ve totally written her as Iago, actually, whispering in Sam’s ear.
Yeah, Bobby! I needed some sort of payback for S&V! The DeanGrrrl in me coming out there for a second!
You know, it has always bothered me that Bobby left a quite obviously griefstricken Dean by himself… I guess I can understand it more with Sam because it happened in the context of him drowning his own grief in alcohol. Show never picks up these small plot points, so thank God for fanfic!
It’s funny but that speech Bobby gave Dean never bothered me the way it did a lot of other fans… I just chalked it up to gruff old hunter giving his own extremely rough version of a pep talk. But what did bother me was the bad writing of Bobby in those two final episodes overall: one minute he seems perfectly willing to dose Sam up on demon blood and send him off to face Lilith and the next minute he’s holding a gun on him so he can’t. Bad, bad writing…
How devious is this skank?! Of course I modeled her on someone… :-D
I can so see her being all Iago in Sam’s ear and of course Show was keeping it all as a last minute reveal [believe it or not, I was fooled by her!] but I bet this is exactly how it would have gone down. It was quite difficult to write her without applying the benefit of hindsight but I had to keep it as subtle as I could so it would be believable that Sam would fall for her line…

I *heart* Bobby. His special relationship with Dean is just so touching. Just lovely on the show, and just lovely here. :)
