This one is particularly irritating. I have taken up place at the beakhead
but even then the earplugs can’t keep out the mindless giggling at Jack’s
sad attempts at humor and when she comes she wails like a banshee; a
screeching counterpoint to Jack’s low-pitched grunts. I doubt she even
understands a word of what he’s mumbling to her.

Nine bloody days already in this hellhole port without him even as much as
/looking/ at his violin.

Or me.

And the refitting is nowhere near completion.

I should have joined the landing party in their search for a new mizzenmast.

The end

ETA: This suspiciously looks like its going to be a series. I was doing some research about the Seven Deadly Sins (don't ask!) and I found this webpage where it said that Dante considers them to be offenses against love. I'd forgotten that bit, but it did give me the frame of reference for this drabble and the next one, which is about love, its opposite virtue. So I've renamed the drabble and added the series.
