Did anyone on the planet really think that Newt Gingrich was a bastion of moral purity before today's news that he was having an affair during the Clinton impeachment fiasco? On the point of the Republicans selling it as a moral failing, I think that's a point open to interpretation. I never felt that the Republicans were doing so. I always felt they were making it a point of law. It seemed to me that the whole moral failing angle was media spin on the Republican message. After all, sex sells newspapers much better than legal wrangling over the definition of perjury.
